Support Groups
*Please note we are not running Support Groups at this time*
6 Week Online Support Group
We usually run a 12 week support group twice a year which takes place in January and September and the group meets at the same time and place every week, which is based in our office in Derby.
You can access the online support group either while you are on the waiting list for therapy, during therapy or after therapy.
The group is run by two professionally qualified therapists with around 6-8 women attending. (We currently have no male groups, but are keen to offer this support. If this is something you are interested in please get in touch.)
This support group provides a safe and confidential space for you to look at areas such as the impact your experience may have had on your:
- Feelings such as shame, guilt, anger and grief
- Behaviour and ways of coping
- Your relationship with yourself and others
The group is there to encourage your self care and support you to adopt healthier coping mechanisms especially during this unprecedented as we are faced with COVID 19.
This is not a therapy group. You do not have to share your personal circumstances. This is a psycho-educational group and aims to empower you to understand how your experiences have impacted you, and how to move on.
There is also opportunity to access ongoing support with our Peer Support Group.
What previous group members have said:
‘The group worked well alongside personal therapy’
‘Empowering’
‘It opened a lot of doors’
‘The knowledge that I am not on my own’
Feedback from one of our 12 week Support Groups:
We’ve achieved a lot in a short space of time. We’ve built up some trust and grown stronger together. Nothing seems impossible. We have all made positive changes. We have moved from victim to survivor. Thanks to the support group we are looking forward to thriving.’
“We are looking forward to thriving!”
Parents and Carers
If you are a parent or carer of a child who has experienced sexual abuse, we can offer support through one to one sessions or small groups.
The aim is to help you understand why your child might be behaving or reacting in a particular way, and how you could respond them in a way that is supports them. The sessions also try to help you to recognise how the abuse has impacted on you and how they can take better care of yourself.
If your child is receiving support through SV2 and you would like to book a parent session please contact us 01773 746115 option 2 or email us. If you are interested in a 6 week parent support group, please let us know. These run periodically and we can add you to the list and let you know when the next group will run.
