Holistic Therapies
Not everyone wants to talk about what happened to them, therefore counselling and talking therapies might not always be the right support.
What is holistic therapy?
Holistic therapy refers to those treatments and therapies that help improve the wellbeing of the whole person; mind, body, soul/spirit and emotions.
Reiki Healing
SV2 are currently offering reiki sessions in the Derby and Buxton area.
What is reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese technique which means life force energy. It is based on the belief that energy blocks within the body can cause physical and emotional symptoms such as illness, ailments, stress, anxiety and low mood.
This also includes trauma which can be held in the body.
Taster Sessions During the Holistic Therapy Pilot, SV2 are able to offer a funded pathway for clients to access Reiki. This includes two funded sessions that can be considered as ‘taster’ sessions, giving clients an opportunity to try an alternative therapy.
What happens in a reiki session?
You will lie on a couch to receive this relaxing treatment whilst the reiki practitioner hovers their hands over the body’s main energy centres known as chakras. The reiki flows through these removing any stagnant energy causing blockages. The session lasts around one hour.
How can reiki help?
Reiki can help in many ways. Here are some benefits:
- Helps with relaxation
- Reduces stress and anxiety
- Improves sleep
- Reduces physical symptoms
- Eases discomfort and pain
- Improves a sense of connection to the self
- Supports personal and spiritual development

We use crystals in some of our holistic practices. To learn more about using crystals to heal trauma visit our blog:
Our Head of Therapy has made an article for BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy) on the integration of Holistic Therapies with counselling, such as Trauma Sensitive Yoga and Reiki.
